Bespoke Office Suite
This great client wanted something unique and really special for their study for working at home. We had several different design ideas at the beginning, and he settled on this desk and alcove cabinets after several consultations.
The desk is made from solid English ash, we selected some really tasty timber from Interesting Timbers – showing off some gorgeous olive ash, which is the darker grain. The waterfall end desk top really highlights the grain as it flows over and down the side of the desk. We decided to make a monitor stand the same to repeat the waterfall and we think it looks great!

Matching Drawers
We made a pair of matching drawered units to go with the desk. One of these was to house the printer so we designed it with a pull out shelf and cable management hole at the back. Printers are better looking when hidden in lovely bespoke furniture I think! The drawers are all handmade solid ash on our usual full extension soft close Blum runners (these come with a lifetime guarantee).
Cut Out Finger Pull Handles
The cut out finger pull handle details have a bespoke brass plate behind them. These and the feet were sourced from and big thanks to Smyths Metals. We have never worked with brass before so it was a great experience. Greg at Bomber Bikeworks really helped us out by turning the brass feet for us on his lathe and we think they look fantastic, thank you Greg!
Black Stained Ash
How did we achieve this deep gorgeous black colour on the ash underframe and the drawers? We used Osmo black oil stain using 3 – 4 coats each side to get the depth of black. We finished it all in 3 coats of the Osmo polyx hard wax oil.
We worked with our awesome electrician to supply power to the desk – there is 2 double sockets on the back panel. This was through a socket on the floor under the drawers.
The alcove cabinets are hand painted in Farrow and Ball Lamp Room Grey, colour matched in Tikkurilla Helmi 10 – our favourite furniture paint. The oak counter tops and shelves were finished in Osmo oil and we fitted them with bookcase strips. Cable management holes are provided in both the cabinets and the desk.
Client was blown away by the project and is very happy with the finished room!
