Welcome to a contemporary twist on bespoke craftsmanship! For this gorgeous Georgian residence in Bristol’s Kingsdown area, we designed and made these walk-in birch plywood wardrobes with white-stained birch plywood.
Challenges often breed innovation, and this project was no exception. Working around under floor heating pipes, electrical cables and pipes demanded meticulous planning and precision at the design stage. Through several design sessions and careful consideration of every detail, we crafted solutions that seamlessly integrated functionality with the desired aesthetics.

“It was great working with Jim and Jo from start to finish. They really listened to what we wanted and bought all the skills and experience to make it happen.
They’ve transformed an awkward space into a beautiful wardrobe. All the pipes and wires are hidden away at the back, but importantly for us there are a number of removable panels to access everything in case there’s a problem.
At the design phase it was so useful to have the sketch-up visualisation of the wardrobe, which Jo updated to take into account a few design iterations. Jo also produced samples so that we could choose the finish we wanted on the plywood.. which now looks exactly as we’d hoped. Jim was very considerate and tidy when he came to install the wardrobe; a welcome house guest!

Plywood wardrobe
In this narrow butler’s pantry, opting for open hanging space instead of doors was a deliberate choice, to ensure plenty of room for hangers and clothes. The wardrobes weren’t deep enough to comfortable closed doors onto jackets and coats on hangers.
Attention to detail extends beyond the surface though – it was all hidden! We made removable bases and backs on the cabinets to allow easy access to concealed services, maintaining the wardrobe’s functionality without compromising its clean lines. The whole sections at the sides are for accesssing pipes and electrics!
These very tall ceilings allowed an opportunity for maximising the storage potential (for things not used very often!). By extending the units to the ceiling, we optimized vertical space, providing Sarah and Ross with plenty of storage for their belongings, albeit they might need a step ladder to get things down!
All of the cabinets had slightly different depths due to what they were hiding behind, and this is one of the many reasons why going fully bespoke was the only way for these birch plywood wardrobes.
