Wardrobe with Ladder

A simple, well-made wardrobe with ladder for a central Bristol apartment with very high ceilings. We designed it to make full use of the height, with a clean shaker look and practical details throughout.

The doors are modern shaker style, spray finished in Little Greene Clay Pale 152. For this fitted wardrobe with ladder we used bronze knurled knobs from The Handle Studio to add a bit of texture and warmth. The rolling ladder and rail are from The Library Ladder Company, made from oak and an oiled bronze rail to match the handles. The ladder stores neatly to the side when not needed, and can be rolled out along the rail for easy access to the top cupboards.

Inside this wardrobe with ladder, the cabinetry is made from ‘Oiled Kendal Oak’ Egger board. The layout was fully led by the client, who had specific craft boxes and seasonal storage she needed to fit. We also built handmade drawers using oak-veneered plywood, all running on full-extension Blum soft-close runners. The blum hinges and all ironmongery come with a lifetime guarantee.

We also made a matching bedside table with a solid English oak top to complete the room.

This project shows how bespoke furniture can be tailored exactly to a client’s needs — making the best use of space without compromising on looks or quality.

We’re often asked to design wardrobes for awkward or unusual spaces, and this was no exception. With the ceiling over 3 metres high, off-the-shelf furniture just wouldn’t have worked – it would have looked out of place and wasted valuable storage space. Because we make everything ourselves, we were able to shape the design around the room and the client’s priorities, resulting in a fitted ladder wardrobe that makes full use of the height.

Projects like this are a good example of what we mean by truly bespoke. Every part of the layout – from the ladder and upper cupboards to the drawer sizes – was designed for a reason. It’s not just about making something look good (though we care about that too). It’s about making something that fits, functions well, and feels like it belongs in the home.
