Plywood and Oak Alcove Cabinet

These lovely clients approached us because they had just a problem with a very large alcove. Their alcove in their living room was 3 whole metres wide in fact! No off the shelf furniture was going to look right in their very wide alcove. They knew they would have to go bespoke to get just what they wanted for this space – a plywood and oak alcove cabinet. The did a google search for ‘furniture makers Bristol’ and we came up!

Together, we designed an amazingly simple run cabinets with 6 doors and a very tasty solid English Oak top. For the interior of the cupboards we chose birch plywood. Birch ply is a fantastic material to work with and incorporate into your home, it’s strength and stability, along with its gorgeous light colour make it a great choice for cabinets and furniture.
Birch plywood is also a good sustainable choice, having minimal environmental impact. Birch trees are an abundant and fast-growing species that cause very little devastation or destruction of biodiversity when they are cut down. Birch plywood is therefore a sustainable, long term choice that has little impact on our global environment.
Everything would have a place in this run of cabinets. To lift the piece and make it extra special Jim hand selected some gorgeous English Oak locally and that became the worktop.
The doors are hand painted in Farrow and Ball in their estate eggshell which gives a durable silk finish. The clients choose the colour – we ordered it and hand painted it in our workshop. After fitting we like to apply a final topcoat, so everything is fresh and beautiful.
The birch plywood interior finished in 3 coats of Osmo oil for an exceptionally durable yet smooth finish and the whole thing was fitted to our meticulous standards.

The consultation process was thorough with samples of materials to choose between, exchange of ideas and clear plans/graphics. The pieces were finished and fitted on schedule, and without any mess.
