Modern Navy Shaker Kitchen
This space began as a tight, ordinary room—one of those kitchens where every centimetre counts. During a full‑house renovation our clients set us a tall order: they wanted the airy feel of bi‑fold doors, yet still needed more storage, more worktop, a dishwasher and the sink. Working hand‑in‑hand with them and their architect, we swapped the usual “either‑or” for a neat “why not both?”—installing bi‑fold windows and doors. On a sunny day you can fling everything open and quite literally wash up while looking straight into the garden.
The cabinetry keeps things calm and timeless: classic shaker frames, painted in Farrow & Ball’s rich Hague Blue. That deep navy sings against a geometric tiled splashback, while open oak shelves add warmth and somewhere to show off favourite ceramics.

We completely gutted our new house for a total renovation. We looked around at a couple of high end high street kitchen showrooms and but in the end we decided to use Jim, a local bespoke cabinet maker. I believe the attention to detail and the design we received went far exceeded what we would have got from a high street kitchen shop. Storage was pushed to the limit without the room ever feeling crowded. A tall larder cupboard tucks the fridge‑freezer out of sight and uses every spare nook all the way to the ceiling. Because it’s built on lockable castors, the island slides wherever it’s needed: pull it close for prep, wheel it clear for a party, or park it under the window for a casual breakfast bar.
